Linearizer

A “linearizer” is a converter that linearizes (makes linear) the characteristics of sensors whose response is not inherently linear.
For example, in the case of flowmeters, depending on their type, output characteristics may follow:

  • Venturi tube equation
  • Weir-type flow meter (rectangular weir, triangular weir, etc.)
  • Parshall flume
  • Palmer-Bowlus flume
If such sensors are connected directly to sequencers (PLCs) or meters, it can be difficult to obtain usable data. Therefore, a linearizer is used to make the output linear before connecting to these devices.
