A “distributor” is a signal distribution device used in combination with 2-wire transmitters that are common in industrial and instrumentation environments (the word “distributor” means “something that distributes”). Two-wire transmitters, such as flow meters and pressure gauges, are supplied with power (mainly DC 24V) and output a DC 4–20mA signal from the sensor. The distributor receives this signal, performs signal conversion and isolation, and then passes the signal to downstream devices (receiving side).
Receiving devices may include sequencers (PLCs), controllers, and recorders. This method was devised for safely sending and receiving signals to and from sensors in hazardous areas, and is now standard in instrumentation systems.
Inside the converter, a current loop is formed, so it is necessary to include a protection circuit for output short-circuits. Our distributors come standard with short-circuit protection and current limiting circuits.
