The role of a “signal converter” is to convert the various electrical signals output by sensors. In the industrial field, commonly used sensors include thermocouples for measuring temperature, flowmeters for measuring flow, and load cells for measuring weight. Each of these sensors outputs different types of electrical signals. As it is, it would be difficult to input such various signals directly into a computer, so signal converters are used to convert the signals into uniform, more easily usable forms.
In addition, signal converters offer convenient and important functions such as signal isolation (input/output isolation), filtering, and linearization. One major advantage of using a signal converter is that you can easily modify your equipment by simply inserting the converter into the signal line, without making changes to the signal source (such as a sensor) or the receiving device (such as a machine).
