LonWorks

LonWorks is a general term for the intelligent distributed control network developed by Echelon Corporation in the United States. “LON” stands for Local Operating Network.
In the field of building automation, it is one of the communication protocols provided by multiple vendors (multi-vendor).
An open system with interoperability, based on LonWorks, is a key feature of building automation systems. This enables users to freely select devices and easily compare costs.
Furthermore, since LonWorks is an autonomous distributed network, it avoids the risk of single-point failures associated with centralized control, thereby improving system reliability.
At the same time, the streamlined network configuration reduces costs, and hot swapping—adding, modifying, or removing devices while in operation—becomes possible, resulting in shorter renovation times and further cost reductions.
