Isolator

An “isolator” is the most basic type of device among converters, and is also known as an isolation converter. As the name suggests, it provides isolation between input and output. Sometimes, it also performs signal level conversion at the same time. Isolators serve many roles, such as:

  1. Preventing current signal interference (ground loops)
  2. Standardizing electrical signals
  3. Protecting equipment
  4. Filtering (noise reduction and elimination)
  5. Clearly defining boundaries of responsibility

and so on.
